Art speak generator. Now you too can sound intelligent about art!

Christian from adnauseum forwarded me this very funny art speak generator. If you ever feel inadequate at an art opening or museum because you don't know the right thing to say about any particular piece of art just input some numbers and you will have the answers to sounding intelligent in the art world.

Give it a try here.

Vintage Matchbook Artwork.

One thing that I have been eyeing heavily these days is vintage matchbook artwork. Here are a few of my favorites from flickr. The use of typography is timeless and the illustrations are perfectly crude and appropriate for end use.

Subway Poster Art Photographs of Toni Tiller.

Toni Tiller is an old friend from my Parsons School of Design days. We found each other via Facebook® and I have followed her photography on flickr since then. One thing that we look at in common are the subway posters that get layered and then ripped off to reveal multiple layers beneath. It is the happy accidents that make New York a wonderful place for inspiration.

Here are a few of the posters that Toni had on her flickr page. You can see more of her photographs here.

Grotesk...Not the font.

At my current position as design director for Zoo York I have filled some very big shoes. I have replaced Kimou Meyer. After four years he has retired from Zoo York to focus on his own personal design. On top of being a designer that I have looked up to for years it's been great to get to know him as he is a super rad guy. His eye for design is unparalleled and his sense of humor is evident in his work.

Kimou, I wish you the best of luck (not that you need it) and it will be a pleasure working with you on future projects.

You can see more of his work here and here.

5 Boro Skateboard series.

Steve R and Nardelli over at 5Boro asked me to design two pro decks for their new line. Here are the results. Always fun working for 5 Boro and seeing my designs ridden by kids around the city.

5Boro had their 13 year anniversary in June of this year and had a wall of every deck they ever produced!
Good times and amazing to see the level of talent that has designed for them over the years.

More about 5Boro here.
